Amy B. Scher Special Guest: Amy B. Scher

Amy Scher is an L.A.-based author and leading voice in the field of mind-body-spirit healing. At 25 years old, Amy’s health began declining as she faced late-stage Lyme disease. Her symptoms baffled doctors, but she kept seeking answers for her recovery, leading her to India, stem cell therapy and several other treatments. But even with extensive treatments, she wasn’t able to get and stay completely well until she turned inward for healing – addressing her emotions, beliefs, and who she really was at the core.

Today, Amy is an author, teacher and energy therapist. She uses energy therapy techniques to help those experiencing illness and those in need of emotional healing. Amy has been featured on healthcare blogs, CNN, Curve magazine, Elephant Journal, Cosmopolitan magazine, OM Times, and the San Francisco Book Review. She was also named one of Advocate’s “40 Under 40” in 2013. Amy has presented to groups such as the Department of Psychiatry at Stanford University and teaches at retreats and conferences nationwide.

Amy has written several books on health and healing, including:

Lessons from Lyme Disease, Chronic Fatigue, and Fibromyalgia: A Collection Of Stories, Insights, and Healing Solutions

This Is How I Save My Life: A True Story of Embryonic Stem Cells, Indian Adventures, and Ultimate Self-Healing

And her most recent book: How To Heal Yourself When No One Else Can: A Total Self-Healing Approach for Mind, Body, and Spirit

Most importantly, Amy lives by her self-created motto:

“When life kicks your ass, kick back.”

5 Signs & Solutions for Clearing Inherited Trauma

Right now, we are in some powerful planetary energy, between the new moon in Leo (July 23) to the first full coast-to-coast solar eclipse in 99 years, planetary energy is building. Many of you may feel turbulence. Especially if you are highly sensitive, intuitive, or you feel like you don’t fit in, and you have a desire to help others heal, grow, and thrive.

Right now, it’s very possible that you are being urgently called to step into your truth, speak your truth, and step up as the change agent you are! What happens though, if you have a trauma, health issue, or life-challenge that seems to be stopping you?

On today’s show, my guest, Amy Scher, and I are going to explore some key reasons why this is happening now, more than ever, and what you can do about it!

We are revealing why inherited traumas or health issues (many times, a chronic issue) are showing up and why this offers us an invitation to clear trauma out for all generations before and after us.

You will learn energy medicine and Native American medicine practices to shift your energy and address inherited patterns, generational limiting beliefs, and fear so you can move forward and heal.

Five Signs That You Are Being Called to Clear Inherited Trauma

#1 – You Are a Generational Pattern Shifter

As I began to study how people can heal at the DNA level with the science of epigenetics, I found myself reading people’s genetic blueprints and noticing patterns. It quickly became apparent to me that there are some people who are stepping up as “generational pattern shifters.” This is the term I use to describe someone who experiences a health issue, trauma, or life challenge and chooses to take an unusual healing journey. The journey is often not mainstream, it’s not straightforward, and it often requires healing many layers. The end result is that as you heal yourself, this healing often extends to the Sacred Family, which includes all generations before you and after you. It also often includes people outside of your family because your healing has a ripple effect.

#2 – You Are a Highly Sensitive, Intuitive, Psychic Person

You may feel things very acutely and pick up on information in the unseen. Because you see things in the unseen, you are able to find new ways of doing things that others may not be tapping into.

#3 – You Just Know, Feel, or Sense That It’s Not Yours

Sometimes, even if you don’t think of yourself as highly sensitive or intuitive, you may find yourself saying, “I know this isn’t mine. I don’t know where it came from.” You aren’t sure why it’s there and can’t see a linkage. One example that Amy gave for this is a deep sadness, anxiety, fear, or struggle that was related to family members who were in a war. She has found that the energy of struggle is one of the most common she encounters, such as feeling like you have to struggle to prove something, or they have to struggle because it’s not right for life to be easy. This struggle can find its way into life, money, career, relationships, etc.

#4 – You Feel Like You Don’t Fit In

If you’re the oddball, you feel like you don’t belong, or you’re always doing things differently from your family or those around you, you may be a generational pattern shifter. The very fact that you want to do things differently from the way your family or community is doing things, shows that you’re a change agent. Perhaps you are attracted to holistic medicine, try complementary approaches to healing, leave the safe job, or travel to far-away lands or other unusual means to seek solutions. You may feel judged for being different.

#5 – The Health Issue, Trauma, or Life Situation You Have Is Related to a Family Pattern

While this may seem obvious at first glance, let’s dive a little deeper. In some cases, the connection may be obvious. A health issue, like cancer, runs in the family. In other cases, it may not be so obvious, but there are threads. I’ll give an example from the Native American side of my family (Hausenosaunee, which you may know as Iroquois). Diabetes and alcoholism are very prevalent. These are extreme blood sugar issues, and gut-imbalances. My grandmother had Type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune condition. It was obvious she had this, but less obvious were the extreme blood sugar swings that my father, sister, and I had. Because I had several other health challenges as a child, I found myself being hyper-aware of the “symptoms” I was seeing in my family. By the time I started studying nutrition, and later, epigenetics, it all started coming together for me. Conditions that are extreme in one family member (diabetes), may be less extreme in others (blood sugar imbalances, hypoglycemia). The same is true if you are the one in your family with a more extreme version of a genetic condition, as I was in my family with a connective tissue disorder. Amy also shared her story of healing from Lyme disease and other health challenges. She took an epic journey to India, got stem cell therapy, and tried many other things before realizing she needed to clear inherited trauma.

Here’s the thing…when you have an issue related to family, it may show up as autoimmunity or some kind of breakdown in your health or life. In these cases, you may not feel safe, or you become aware that you never felt safe. You then have the opportunity to shift this pattern, which has a healing effect backward and forward.

4 Solutions for Clearing Inherited Trauma

While Amy and I went through several solutions in the show, we will be teaching a class on this at the Open Center in New York City on October 28, 2017. This class will be an opportunity to dive deep and recognize the patterns you’re experiencing, how to listen to your body for the wisdom to move forward, and some incredibly powerful energy therapy and Native American medicine healing experiences. We will look at how to heal at the DNA-level and give you tools you can take with you for the rest of your life.

Here Are 4 Tips to Get You Started

#1 – Listen to Your Body and Life

All triggers, symptoms, and signals have a message for you. We had several people on the show say that it’s hard for them to listen to their body and we get it! When you have physical or emotional pain, the first instinct is to run in the opposite direction! However, in this case, feeling is healing. So drop your attention into your body and feel into it. We do a brief sage ceremony meditation in the second video (above), where I guide you through this process.

As you listen, ask: “Is this mine or does it belong to someone or something else?” Keep asking this, even if you don’t get an answer right away. Trust that it will come to you. The reason you are a generational pattern shifter is that you ARE listening! Even if you don’t think you are right now, you have the ability to deeply listen to the unseen messages in your life.

#2 – Embrace What Makes You Different

Trust that you are safe. Now here’s the thing…as you go through life, you will get odd looks from people. You are a change agent, a high performer, a generational pattern shifter. The very nature of being a change agent is that you don’t do things the same way other people do them. You take your own path, which is how the change happens. For this reason, all the people who are following the rules will give you odd looks or maybe even get angry. Humans inherently resist change. Interestingly, once the change happens and people get used to it, they tend to like it, but before the change, the first reaction is resistance, fear, anger. As a generational pattern shifter, you may sense this. Don’t let it stop you from being all of who you are — this is how the change happens!

Instead, remind yourself: “I am safe.” Amy talked about autoimmune conditions having to do with feeling like you are always under attack. Perhaps you are scaring yourself with your thoughts and fears. The body learns to constantly have to overdo it to fight back, going into immunity-overdrive and attacking your own tissues. It’s time to change this pattern. If you are highly sensitive, you may feel hypervigilant to energy you’re picking up and because it’s unseen, you may not feel safe. Or perhaps the family had a major loss – a loss of a parent or a breakdown of some sort. This can cause you to feel unsafe (or if it happened in generations before, that deep fear and hypervigilance may be passed down generations). As you shift into, “I am safe,” you start changing this pattern.

#3 – Choose Some Clearing Practices
  • Express Gratitude – In Native American culture, Thanksgiving is incredibly important. This is true in many other cultures as well, which is why I love this simple technique. Most of you will resonate with this at a deep, DNA level. When you wake up, thank the Creator, God, Source, for this day and your life. Simply say, “thank you.” As you go through your day, express thanks for all of the blessings you encounter. This is epigenetic because when you are in the state of gratitude, it’s a stress-reliever and there’s no bigger root cause of illness and disease than stress. When you express thanks in prayer, it’s even more powerful.
  • Do something important in your culture – Studies show that culture heals, including prayer, ceremony, ritual, language, and ancestral foods. Choose something that helps you feel connected to your ancestors. These days, you can learn a lot about your ancestors by searching the Internet. Even better, if you have family members who took great interest in family traditions, get together with them. Make an old family recipe with pure ingredients (no processed or refined foods). Think about ingredients they would have had access to generations ago and have fun recreating the process. This is one of the many reasons I love bone broth as a healing food. Bone broth was consumed in cultures all over the world when our ancestors practiced “zero waste,” using every part of every plant and animal. Collagen rich, it helps heal the connective tissue (think family and how we are all relatives, all connected) and repair your gut and your immune system. If you aren’t ready to make bone broth, try Collagen Peptides. You can put this powdered collagen supplement into water, soups, stews — any liquid.
#4 – Connect with Nature

We all know that nature heals. You’ve felt it in the woods, by the ocean or in a park. The earth’s electromagnetic field has an entirely different frequency than the stressed out, fast-paced days of modern life. Putting your bare feet on the ground has many benefits. It helps you feel grounded, relaxed, and safe. I like to think of the soil as connective tissue for all beings on earth. It connects us with our ancestors, reminding us that they once lived off the land and knew it much better than we did. This knowing exists in the unseen. Some of you may realize you have gifts when it comes to connecting with nature. Maybe you had medicine people or healers in your ancestry. As you touch the earth and allow your mind and body to slow down, you open yourself up for intuition to speak more clearly through you.

The crystals from the earth and sea also give us minerals. Back in the day of our ancestors, the soil was much more mineral-rich than it is today. If you are experiencing hypervigilance, anxiety, depression, fatigue, overwhelm, stress, or adrenal fatigue, you would benefit from adding minerals to your water. This can be as simple as adding ¼ teaspoon Celtic Sea Salt to an 8 oz. glass of water with the juice of ½ lemon a couple times per day, or even better, consuming a dropperful of Anderson’s Sea MD over the course of a day (a few drips in water, soups, stews, or smoothies).
